Aquidneck Island Oyster Company is a family run business which seeks to provide top quality oysters, promote a healthy marine environment, and maintain Rhode Island’s working waterfront and maritime culture. As a growing family of three with close ties to the sea, we believe it is our responsibility to care for the ocean’s resources. We are grateful to have the opportunity to be stewards of the coastal zone while providing you with delicious, healthy oysters.
We started our farm in May of 2020, but our dream of having an oyster farm started long before then. Dan grew up near the coast of New Jersey and comes from a long line of avid fisherman and shellfish harvesters. When he went to college, he studied environmental science with a concentration in water resources, and went on to earn his master’s degree in marine biology through in depth research of water quality. His interests in marine ecosystem health, combined with his love of fishing, naturally brought him to his desire to start an oyster farm. For many years, his wife, Kait, encouraged Dan’s fascination with harvesting from the sea, even though their fridge was often overstocked with shellfish. Fishing and harvesting became a way of life for their family, and with support from the broader community, Dan started his first oyster farm in May 2020.
